Salmon in the Classroom Project

Funded by a grant from the Michigan Water Environment Association in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, students are monitoring the water conditions and feeding salmon to raise them to be released in out local Lake Michigan tributary.

Through this project students not only learn about the biology of this organism but also the chemistry essential to its survival. Students test the dissolved oxygen content, pH, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, hardness, temperature and phosphate levels.

Check out the DNR's Salmon in the Classroom website and seek funding from your local trout unlimited chapter or water treatment facility.
